JAL x Accor 20% Transfer Bonus (July 2026): The Backdoor Route to Accor Points for Axis Atlas and Magnus Cardholders

Axis removed Accor as a transfer partner in April — but JAL's 20% conversion bonus quietly reopens the route. 5,000 Atlas EDGE Miles become 4,800 Accor points (~₹9,700) until July 31. Here's the maths, the Group A cap trade-off, and the gotchas.

JAL x Accor 20% Transfer Bonus (July 2026): The Backdoor Route to Accor Points for Axis Atlas and Magnus Cardholders

Japan Airlines Mileage Bank and Accor Live Limitless (ALL) are running a 20% bonus on point conversions between the two programmes, valid from 1 July to 31 July 2026 (JST). On its own, this is a routine promo. For Indian cardholders, it's more interesting than that.

When Axis Bank removed Accor as a Travel Edge transfer partner in April 2026, direct access to Accor points from Axis cards disappeared. This promotion quietly reopens that door: Axis Edge Miles → JAL Mileage Bank → ALL Accor, with a 20% bonus on the second hop.

The offer, verified

Per the official terms on Accor's offer page and JAL's campaign T&Cs:

ProgrammeStandard rateWith 20% bonus (July 2026)
ALL Accor → JAL4,000 ALL points = 2,000 JAL miles4,000 ALL points = 2,400 JAL miles
JAL → ALL Accor5,000 JAL miles = 1,000 ALL points5,000 JAL miles = 1,200 ALL points
JAL → ALL Accor (bulk)10,000 JAL miles = 4,000 ALL points10,000 JAL miles = 4,800 ALL points

Note the asymmetry: transferring JAL miles in blocks of 10,000 is dramatically better than 5,000-mile blocks (4,800 vs 2,400 points per 10,000 miles). Always transfer in 10,000-mile multiples.

Why this matters for Axis cardholders

Axis transfers to JAL Mileage Bank at these ratios, per JAL's Axis Bank partner page (JAL is a Group A partner):

  • Axis Atlas: 1 EDGE Mile = 2 JAL miles
  • Magnus for Burgundy / Burgundy Private / Reserve: 5 EDGE Reward Points = 4 JAL miles

So the full chain during the promo:

  • 5,000 Atlas EDGE Miles → 10,000 JAL miles → 4,800 Accor points
  • 12,500 M4B points → 10,000 JAL miles → 4,800 Accor points

Accor points have a fixed redemption value of €40 per 2,000 points (usable against any hotel bill, no award chart games). 4,800 points = €96 ≈ ₹9,700.

Value per point:

  • Atlas: ~₹1.94 per EDGE Mile — comfortably above the ₹1 TravelEdge floor, and among the best hotel-value outcomes left on Atlas post-devaluation.
  • M4B: ~₹0.78 per point — below what M4B holders can get elsewhere. This route is a poor deal on Magnus-family cards unless you specifically need Accor points.

Who should actually do this

Good fit:

  • Atlas holders who lost the direct Accor route in April 2026 and have upcoming Accor-brand stays (Novotel, ibis, Sofitel, Pullman, Fairmont, Raffles)
  • Anyone with orphaned or expiring JAL miles (JAL miles hard-expire at 36 months for non-JGC members)
  • Cardholders with Group A cap headroom who value cash-like hotel credit over award flights

Skip it if:

  • You were saving Group A capacity for KrisFlyer, Aeroplan, or JAL award flights — premium-cabin redemptions can still return well above ₹2/mile, beating this route
  • You're on M4B/Magnus — the 5:4 ratio makes the maths mediocre
  • You have no Accor stay in sight — this is a one-way street (see gotchas)

The gotchas

  1. Transfers are final. Once JAL miles convert to Accor (or vice versa), there's no reversal. Confirm your Accor use case first.
  2. Group A cap. JAL sits in Axis Group A. Atlas is capped at 30,000 EDGE Miles per calendar year across all Group A partners combined. This route consumes that cap 1:1 — 5,000 EDGE Miles used here is 5,000 you can't send to KrisFlyer later this year. Caps reset 1 January.
  3. New JAL accounts — the 60-day rule. JAL's documented restriction on accounts under 60 days old applies to searching and booking award flights — it is not written as a block on partner point conversions. Community data points (r/CreditCardsIndia) back this up: members have converted JAL miles to Accor within days of opening an account, and the cool-off has been confirmed by multiple users to apply to reward tickets, not transfers. That said, JAL doesn't officially address the transfer case, and the rule is loosely enforced and inconsistently described. If you're opening a JAL account today purely for this promo, budget for the possibility it doesn't go through — the Axis→JAL leg alone takes 3–7 days, leaving little buffer before 31 July.
  4. Two-legged timing risk. You need both hops to land inside the window? No — only the JAL→Accor conversion must be initiated within the promo period (by 23:59 JST, 31 July 2026). But your Axis miles must reach JAL first, so start the Axis leg immediately.
  5. Bonus credits separately. Accor posts the base points and the 20% bonus as two transactions; the bonus can take up to 10 business days after conversion.
  6. Name matching. JAL miles can only convert to an ALL account in the same member's name. One JAL account links to one ALL account.
  7. Accor point expiry. ALL points expire after 365 days of no qualifying activity — but a single point-earning stay or transfer extends them.

Step-by-step (Atlas example)

  1. Enrol in JAL Mileage Bank and ALL Accor (free) if you haven't. Caveat for new JAL accounts: JAL's documented 60-day rule blocks award flight bookings on new accounts, and community data points show partner conversions (including JAL→Accor during this promo) going through on accounts under 60 days old — but JAL doesn't officially confirm this for transfers. If your account is brand new, treat this route as best-effort, not guaranteed (see gotcha 3).
  2. Link your JAL membership on Axis Travel Edge (app or web) and transfer EDGE Miles → JAL (minimum 500 EDGE Miles; allow 3–7 days).
  3. Once miles land in JAL, initiate the JAL → ALL Accor conversion in 10,000-mile blocks before 23:59 JST on 31 July 2026.
  4. Base points post per Accor's normal timeline; the 20% bonus follows within ~10 business days.

FAQ

Q: Until when is the JAL–Accor 20% bonus valid? A: Conversions initiated between 00:00 JST on 1 July 2026 and 23:59 JST on 31 July 2026.

Q: Can I still transfer Axis points directly to Accor? A: No. Axis removed Accor as a Travel Edge partner on 2 April 2026. Routing via JAL is currently the only path from Axis cards to Accor points.

Q: How much are 4,800 Accor points worth? A: €96 (about ₹9,700), redeemable against any bill at Accor hotels in €40-per-2,000-point blocks.

Q: Is this worth it on Magnus for Burgundy? A: Generally no — 12,500 M4B points for ₹9,700 of hotel credit (~₹0.78/point) underperforms other M4B redemptions. It's an Atlas play.

Q: Do transfers count against my Axis Group A cap? A: Yes. JAL is a Group A partner; Atlas has a 30,000 EDGE Mile annual Group A cap.

Q: My JAL account is brand new. Can I still do this? A: Likely yes, but not guaranteed. JAL's 60-day restriction is documented for award flight bookings, not partner point conversions, and community reports show JAL→Accor transfers succeeding on new accounts. JAL doesn't officially confirm this for transfers, so treat it as a calculated risk.

Q: Can the transfer be reversed? A: No. All conversions between JAL and Accor are final.
